The third of the Mudgala Purana's eight incarnations, Mahodara, "the big belly," entered the world to confront Mohasura, the demon of delusion and infatuation, a vice as difficult to see clearly as it is to escape.
A Form Suited to Its Purpose
Mahodara's ample form carries its own meaning: a vastness capable of containing and absorbing the confusion and illusion Mohasura spread, much as Lambodara's belly elsewhere in Shree Ganesh's tradition is understood to hold the joys and sorrows of the world without being overwhelmed by them.
Delusion's Particular Danger
Unlike envy or arrogance, delusion works precisely by obscuring the very fact that anything is wrong, making Mohasura's threat especially insidious: a demon whose victims often did not recognize their own captivity until Mahodara's intervention revealed it.
